Can whitening toothpaste whiten teeth

Can whitening toothpaste whiten your teeth ?

toothpaste_bottleCommon toothpastes cannot whiten teeth because it doesn’t contain peroxide for bleaching purpose. Toothpastes only contain mild abrasion and polish materials to clean teeth and remove surface stains on teeth. But as the time goes, experts began to develop new technology called whitening toothpaste. As the name, these whitening toothpastes contain baking soda and peroxide. It’s not only works to clean teeth from stains and odors, but also slightly whiten teeth.

Although whitening toothpaste company claimed that their product can whiten teeth, I suggest you to not expect the same result as you go bleaching your teeth to dentist.
Why? Because, the peroxide used to bleach teeth need sometimes to works well, that’s why dentist use peroxide gel on the mouth tray you wear to give time for peroxide gel to react. Brushing teeth with whitening toothpastes cannot give enough time for peroxide to bleach teeth well, that’s why whitening toothpastes can only brighten the color of your teeth at least a shade or two.

One other thing you should remember while using tooth whitening is the safety for your teeth. While baking soda is an ingredient that is safe for use on teeth, is not the case on the peroxide, the main bleaching ingredient in whitening toothpaste. Peroxide toothpaste can irritate your teeth, thus its use is not recommended for sensitive teeth.

Warning: Don’t use whitening toothpaste too often, it can harm your teeth enamel.

If you are considering using whitening toothpaste, find a brand with a seal of approval from the leading dental organizations – such as American Dental Association (ADA), showing toothpaste effectively removes surface stains and reduce tooth decay.
